The tour begins when you join the Weta Tours coach in central Wellington to the Weta Cave in a dedicated "There & Back Again" shuttle. Your friendly driver will point out Wellington film landmarks along the way.

Arriving at Weta Worshop you then have a 45-minute guided Weta Cave Workshop Tour which lets you get up close to the props, weapons, armour and vehicles crafted for The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, District 9, King Kong, The Chronicles of Narnia and more.

You have priority seating for Weta documentary film as you take a seat in the Weta Cave for our exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary about the history of Wetas creativity.

Next we relocate to another part of "Wellywood" for a 45-minute guided Miniatures Stage Tour: Thunderbirds Are Go tour. Check out authentic Weta Workshop miniatures and learn how a TV show is brought to life!

At the end of the tour you have some time to shop at the famous Weta Cave shop, ample time to browse our shop and mini museum, full of incredible collectibles and movie merchandise.

Your tour starts from the Wellington I-Site which is opposite the Amora Hotel [now closed], on Wakefield Street. This is a 15 minute walk from the drop off point for the cruise ship shuttle buses into the city, where they drop you off at Brandon Street. Or a 5 minute taxi ride.

Instructions
  • On disembarking your ship please take the earliest shuttle provided by the port in to the city. Your cruise ship may charge a fee for this service. The shuttles usually drop you in Brandon Street and from there it is a 15 minute walk to the Wellington I-Site which is opposite the Amora Hotel [now closed], on Wakefield Street, where the Weta bus departs from.
  • You should check in at the meeting point at least 15 minutes prior to the start time.

    Where do we join the tour?

You will need to take the ships shsuttles into the city as you can not walk from the port. The shuttles usually drop you in Brandon Street and then it is a 15 minute walk to the Wellington I-Site in Wakefield Street, where the WETA coach departs from.
